2017 PG Fall Top Prospect National Showcase
Colton Byars is a 2018 C/3B with a 5-10 195 lb. frame from Simpsonville, SC who attends Hillcrest High School. Medium, athletic frame with broad shoulders and physical strength proportioned throughout frame. Ran a 7.14 60-yard dash. Primary catcher, compact set up behind the plate and remains low through actions, gains short ground with lower half and can continue to incorporate more, short arm action with a tight release on throws, worked around the bag with accuracy. Sound actions in the infield, hands played well out front at the ball, long strides moving towards the ball. Lefthanded hitter, begins with an open stance and a high hand set and back elbow at he plate; utilizes a short leg lift trigger for timing at the plate. Shows a direct path to the ball with loose wrists in swing and able to create some whip to the barrel while hitting the ball out front. Occasionally gets to front side early, ball jumps off the barrel hard with rising line drive contact. Able to work the gaps while finding the barrel, easy swing with lift at the point of contact. Named to Fall National Showcase Top Prospect List. Very good student. Verbal commitment to Florence-Darlington Tech.
