Thomas Bainton is a 2019 3B/RHP with a 6-2 175 lb. frame from Torrance, CA who attends North Torrance HS. Large frame, lean build with long limbs. Right handed hitter with a slightly open stance and high back elbow set. Rotational lower half to contact with some shift. Compact, line drive swing plane with good balance throughout. Flashed present bat speed with pop to gaps when able to stay through extension. Primarily used a mid-field approach, flashed ability to turn barrel to pitches middle in and drive baseball to pull side. Worked out defensively from the infield showing smooth funneling glove actions with polished, fundamental footwork. Athletic actions while working through transition with clean exchanges. Creates plus carry on throws across the infield from a three-quarters arm slot. Also pitched using a high tempo delivery with slight spine tilt at gather. Creates a deeper hook back at separation with releases from a three-quarters arm slot. Hides the baseball very well and comes through extension with a quick arm action. Fastball shows downhill life in the lower 80's, topped at 83 mph. Curveball has good 11/5 shape with depth. Flashed a straight changeup that had the same high energy release as fastball in the mid 70's. Mixed and matched pitches well throughout with good command down in the zone. Very projectable body on the mound. Intriguing two way prospect that will continue to develop with physical maturity and repetition. Named to 2016 Sunshine West Top Prospect List.
