Christopher Penna is a 2018 C/1B with a 6-1 180 lb. frame from Hermosa Beach, CA who attends Mira Costa HS. Large frame with a solid, athletic build. Shows beginnings of strength with projects for more with continued physical development. Ran a 7.46 sixty yard dash. Primary catcher, shows a low set while receiving with good hip flexion. Fundamental footwork while working out of crouch and gains ground towards the bag. Arm comes through from a slightly lower arm slot topping at 75 mph, best workout pop time of 2.09. Also showed soft, strong hands while receiving the baseball throughout the zone. Right handed hitter balanced, straight stance. Lower half launches to contact with rotational actions producing some shift. Barrel arrives on time, flashing solid hand quickness and bat speed to contact. Present strength that generates solid jump off the barrel to the outfield gaps. Shows best swing plane and balance through extension when working the baseball to the middle of the field. Good student as well.
