Daniel Alvarez, Jr. is a 2017 SS with a 5-11 185 lb. frame from Bronx, NY who attends Fordham Preparatory. Medium, athletic frame with a broad shoulders and present strength proportioned well throughout frame. Excellent runner, posted a 6.60 60-yard dash. Primary shortstop, fields the ball out front and shows quick footwork moving to the ball, soft hands play well out front, solid present arm strength and carry across the diamond with big hop, good carry and accuracy, extra step at release. Righthanded hitter, begins with an even stance and uses a leg lift trigger for timing in the box. Line drive swing plane with relaxed hands, keeps the barrel in the zone well and generates nice bat speed. Able to create occasional lift out front and shows fluidity to swing, best contact comes off the pull side, remains balanced through swing nicely. Named to Sunshine Northeast Top Prospect List. Verbal commitment to Pittsburgh. Very good student.
