Matthew Cooper is a 2017 C/1B with a 6-3 210 lb. frame from Virginia Beach, VA who attends Norfolk Academy. Big and strong physical build. Runs very well for his size and for a primary catcher, 6.87 in the sixty. Very good arm strength behind the plate, makes accurate throws, footwork and receiving skills still developing, not sure how much catching he has done but has the tools and athleticism to keep improving with work. Also plays the outfield and is solid at the corner positions. Right handed hitter, hits from a wide bent knee stance, rotational swing with an inside swing path, has strength he wasn't showing in his swing, will flash some lift and leverage at times. Very good athlete who will improve as his skills improve. Good student, verbal commitment to Clemson.
