Nick DeLaet is a 2018 RHP/OF with a 6-1 165 lb. frame from Liberty Township, OH who attends Lakota East. Large frame with a lean build and wiry strength. Projects for additional size with strength. Ran a 6.84 sixty yard dash. Primary right handed pitcher, shows a wide base to a short rock step into a waist high leg kick. Up tempo action through balance point before working downhill to the plate. Strides to arm side slightly, spins to clear hips when landed. Compact arm circle back at separation and releases from a high three-quarters arm slot. Creates solid plane on fastball offering down in the zone topping at 77 mph. Good command of the zone with the ability to pitch to both sides of the plate. Curveball has 12/5 shape with good spin and early depth. Works ahead of hitters and challenges the zone with both pitches. Repeats body mechanics and arm slot well. Also worked out defensively from the outfield showing clean actions to the baseball with developing fluidity. Clean, quick glove to hand exchanges while working through transfer. Long arm circle back at separation and releases from a loose arm action topping at 76 mph. Throws produced solid carry and accuracy to the bag. Let handed hitter with an upright, open stance and high back elbow set. Lower half launches with linear actions into a tall front side at contact. Has present bat speed with a smooth barrel path through extension. Consistently produces rising line drives between the gaps. Baseball comes off the barrel clean with solid carry and backspin to each gap. Good student as well.
