William Brendan Lawbaugh is a 2006 LHP/OF from U. of San Diego HS with a 5'11", 170 lb. frame. On the mound he has a very smooth delivery with good mechanics and really uses his lower half well. He has solid arm speed with a shorter arm circle on the back side. There is little to no effort in his delivery and he keeps his head still throughout his motion. Lawbaugh had some tailing action on his fastball that topped out at 77 mph, and mixed in a 63 mph curveball with downward action. He holds runners at first base well and varies his speeds to the plate. Lawbaugh allowed only a couple singles in his two innings of work and kept the hitters off balance. Offensively he hits from an upright and slightly open stance. He stays balanced through his swing with a short stride and has a line drive swing plane. Lawbaugh didn't workout in the OF, but showed good actions in the games with good range and read balls off the bat well. He is an outstanding student as well.
