2005 Atlantic Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Lawson is a 6-2, 170 lb senior right handed pitcher from South Carolina who has some projection left physically. He has a high leg kick to start his delivery with some backward lean and a full arm circle in back. Lawson's fastball was 80-82 mph and fairly straight but he spotted the ball well. His best pitch was a 68-71 mph curveball that was sharp at times with good 2 plane break. Lawson showed the ability to throw his curveball for strikes at any time in the count, which made the pitch even better. Lawson's information sheet lists "Command of 4 pitches" as one of his strengths, but we didn't see any other pitches. If he has a change up or slider that is comparible to his curveball in quality or command, that would definitely up his overall evaluation. Good follow for the right college program and level.
