McGonigle is a well rounded prospect who’s right on the cusp between being an outstanding college prospect who could step in and play right away at any program in the country and a bona fide pro prospect. How he develops his overall strength and peripheral tools over the off season will tell a lot about his near term future. McGonigle’s offensive game is very polished. He has a very patient, practiced approach at the plate with strong swing fundamentals. His approach from the right side appears to be more base hit/line drive oriented, keeping his hands low and quick to the ball. From the left side, McGonigle shows more loft and power to his swing. If he gets stronger, we don’t have much doubt that McGonigle will be a very strong and well rounded offensive performer in the future. Like his offensive approach, the rest of McGonigle’s game is mature and polished. He gets good jumps in the outfield and he has excellent accuracy on his throws. He’ll be the type of outfielder who teams think that they can run on because of his below average arm strength, but he’ll keep throwing out more than his share of runners who take a chance on him. McGonigle’s running speed projects the same as his arm strength. He’s a 7.05 runner, he is slightly below average on the pro scale, but he runs the bases and does everything else with excellent instincts. McGonigle is first and foremost a baseball player and his playability rates with most any outfielder in the "04" class. MLB clubs that get past the "plus tools only" thinking to the draft are most likely to like Mark. There's no doubt that he will be make a big impact at the highest level of college ball. Mark is an excellent student with great makeup.
