2007 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
Gavin Wicks is a 2008 OF/P with a 6'0'', 160 lb. frame from Decorah, Iowa, who attends Decorah High School. Wicks has a lean and athletic build with some projectability. He also has good speed in the sixty (7.05) and he shows instincts on the bases. Defensively he has solid carry on his throws from the outfield at 80 mph. He also moves well defensively with range. At the plate he is a left handed hitter who hits from an average base with a crouched stance. Wicks keeps his weight back well getting some leverage at contact. He likes the ball on the inner half and pulls the ball. He shows bat speed through the hitting zone, but he has an inconsistent bat path that causes him to not center the ball consistently. There is upside to his game, and he is a good student as well.
