Andrew Tonner is a 2006 1B/LHP from Brophy College Prep in Phoenix, AZ, with a 6'5", 190 lb. frame. He has great physical projection with loose, wiry present strength. Tonner is a primary first baseman but we see no reason why he shouldn't be in the outfield and he may even have the range to play centerfield. He ran the 60 in 6.93 with long, easy strides and was 4.44 down to first base. He showed plenty of arm strength during infield drills and during a short stint on the mound, too. At the plate, Tonner has a smooth, tension free swing with very good balance and plus extension out front. The ball jumps hard off his bat and he's going to just keep improving as he gets stronger and learns to use his hands more in his swing. He has great leverage at the point of contact, which could translate into big time power down the road. Keep an very close eye on this young hitter, he has the potential to really blossom into something special in the future.
