Elliot Stewart is a 2008 right hand hitting catcher from Archbishop Mitty HS, residing in San Jose, CA. He has a 5'10" 170 lb. frame and an strong, yet agile and athletic build with some room to fill out. Stewart is an athletic catcher who has a chance to be well above average defensively while contributing as an offensive player more than some catchers are expected to. At the plate he displayed good hands and an easy swing, with a nice opposite field approach. Stewart is patient and maintains good balance througout the swing, allowing him to be a very good contact type hitter. He is patient and willing to use the whole field, while showing some feel for hitting. As he continues to develop, some gap power should emerge. Defensively he is a good receiver who sits well and presents a great target for pitchers to throw to. His actions are quiet and his hands are soft. Stewart has a good arm and throws accurately, with an exchange that should allow him to be consistently in the low 2.0s as a thrower. He is agile and athletic with good block/control skills. All-around Stewart is a very quality catcher who has a chance to hit at the D1 level.
