Joshua Maxwell is a 2008 1B/P with a 6'3'', 185 lb. frame from Poway, CA, who attends Mt. Carmel HS. Tall, wiry, extra large frame with room to grow. Defensively he has arm strength across the diamond and makes accurate throws. Maxwell has good hands and shows nice footwork around the first base bag. At the plate he is a right handed hitter who hits from a wide and open stance. He makes solid contact from a short and compact line drive swing plane. Maxwell takes his hands to the ball well and shows gap to gap power with leverage and balance at contact. Maxwell's fluid stroke has projectable power and he could develop into a middle of the order run producer. On the mound he throws from a 3/4 arm slot with no mechanical flaws. Maxwell has a clean arm action with good arm speed. He stays balanced and online. His fastball topped out at 84 mph, and he has solid secondary pitches. There is sharpness to his curveball and his change has sinking action. Good upside.
