2005 Midwest Top Prospect Showcase
Michael Goveia is a 5-10, 140 lb junior switch hitting middle infielder from Illinois with a medium frame and young features. He hasn't started getting strong yet. Goveia ran the 60 in 7.40 and threw 74 mph during infield drills. His arm showed some carry from shortstop although he tended to be a bit deliberate in his fielding actions. Goveia is a switch hitter with a good fundamental approach from both sides of the plate. He has better raw bat speed from the right side of the plate but did a good job of speeding up his bat from the left side the second day of the showcase after he'd seen some good pitching. He lined a couple of nice hits up the middle. Goveia is a good fundamental player who will keep improving as he gets stronger and more physically mature.
