2005 South Top Prospect Showcase
James is a 6-6, 205 lb right handed pitcher from Oklahoma with a tall, athletic body and plenty of room to get stronger. He has very raw pitching mechanics with a head jerk off the plate and a pretty severe fall off to the first base side the keeps him from staying behind his pitches. James still was able to throw the ball consistently 83-85 mph. He threw both a slider and a curveball and the slider at 76 mph showed sharp biting aciton frequently and was the better of the two breaking balls. We didn't see a change up. James seems like a good athlete who would be capable of making the adjustments necessary to his delivery. There could be a big-time 90+ mph arm hiding here behind a bad delivery if there is a pitching coach able to bring it out. Big Sleeper! James is also an excellent student.
