Josh Canales is a 2008 MIF/3B with a 5'11'', 175 lb. frame from Yorba Linda, CA who attends El Dorado HS. He has an athletic and strong build on an average frame that will hold more strength and size gains. Canales at times flashed a swing and hands that suggest he is going to be a really good hitter. He has some bat speed and a very nice looking swing. His hands are relaxed in his set-up and his approach is quiet. We would like to have seen a more aggressive swing with more intent to damage the baseball. A more consistent timing mechanism that would allow him to pick up the ball earlier would be a nice adjustment for Canales. Defensively he has a quick infielder release and his hands work well. Cananles shows the type of actions that will allow him to stay up the middle, likely at 2nd base. Some players leave us feeling like we didn't see the best they have to offer and Canales is one of those players.
