2006 California Underclass
Jonathan Moon is a 2008 LHP/1B from Redwood HS, residing in Visalia, CA, with a 6'2" 165 lb. frame. He has a good pitcher's build... long with room to fill out. The mound is where Moon displays his strongest ability at this point. He pitches from a traditional 3/4 slot and has good command. Moon showed good command and used three pitches. He does not have overpowering stuff at this point in his career, but he keeps the ball down and routinely got hitters to beat the ball in the dirt. His fastball went as high as 75 mph, with a 59 mph CB and a 57 mph change-up. With his long and lean frame, expect to see Moon gain velocity as he continues to physically mature. A right handed hitter, Moon has a swing that is short to the ball. He keeps his hands close to his body and displayed some balance during the swing. Once his swing got started, Moon's swing path was ok. By making some adjustments he may unlock more of his natural ability. On defense Moon showed soft hands and displayed pretty easy actions with an arm that has some carry. Moon is a young (soph), good bodied left hander and should be followed as a pitching prospect for the next couple of summers.
