2013 Caribbean Top Prospect Showcase
Andres Medina is a 2014 LHP/OF with a 5-10 172 lb. frame from Caguas, PR who attends Caguas Military Academy. Strong short build, strong lower half. Leg raise/hip turn delivery, compact high arm action, tight 3/4's arm slot, some effort on release. Low 80's fastball, touched 84-85 mph early, mostly straight, throws a 79 mph cutter off his fastball with good effect and consistency, spots fastball to corners well. Threw both a curveball and slider, slider was better pitch with some sharpness, curveball slower and often rolled. Nice change up with good fading action. Has all the pitches and an idea how to use them. Showed very good arm strength from the outfield, 7.00 runner in the sixty. Left handed hitter, late lift and replace load, tends to pull off on swing, swings hard and flashes some right centerfield pop when squared. Good student. Named to the Caribbean Showcase Top Prospect team.
