Graves is a 5-8, 205 lb junior catcher from Ames, Iowa. He has a stocky, strong body but is a good runner for his size at 7.30. Graves threw 70 mph on his throws to second base with a best workout pop time of 2.15 and game pop times around 2.45. At the plate, Graves has an aggressive, all out swing that produces some bat speed. He tends to drop his hands on his swing, which left him consistently popping the ball up or under the ball completely and he’ll improve with better swing mechanics. His strength and bat speed probably enable him to hit well with a metal bat against lesser pitchers than he saw in Cedar Rapids. Graves is a good student.
