Mike McGowan is a 2007 first baseman/outfielder from South Broward HS in Hollywood, FL, with a 5'9", 168 lb. frame. Defensively he has good hands at first base with good actions, and he moves well around the first base bag. At the plate he is a left handed hitter with very good bat speed and attacks the ball. He hits from a medium base and takes a short stride with a short and easy approach to the ball. McGowan knows how to hit, and he has the adjustability with his hands to use the whole field and hit for a high average. Currently he is a line drive hitter from gap to gap, but should develop more power as he learns to stay back and get better leverage at contact. He has good hand-eye coordination and also has good strike zone awareness. McGowan looks like a productive hitter.
