Anthony Butler is a 2006 LHP with a 6'7'', 206 lb. frame from Oak Creek WI, who attends Oak Creek HS. He is an All-State basketball player in the middle of his season in Wisconsin but tells us he's been throwing consistently for the past 3-4 weeks, which tells us a lot about his dedication and direction. This was the best that we've seen Butler throw. He's in excellent condition and looks bigger than 6-7. Butler throws from a high 3/4's extended release with very good arm speed and gets outstanding downward plane to the plate. He repeats his delivery well, as you would expect a top athlete to do, and threw the ball where he wanted to. Butler's fastball topped out at 90 mph and was comfortable at 87-88. It has occasional explosive life at the plate and Butler showed he liked to throw inside to right handed hitters. Butler's curveball is hard and sharp at 75 mph and has very good downer biting action at times. He could throw more of them than he did this outing. Butler has been working on a 78-80 mph pitch he calls a cutter but which has true slider spin and bite. The pitch is still raw but shows promise, especially if he learns to throw it harder and not confuse it with his curveball release. Butler is also developing a change up that shows promise as well. The professional scouts are going to be very excited to see Butler this spring; 6-7 southpaws who throw 90, can spin the ball and are super athletic are few and far between. Butler has signed with Arkansas and is a very good student should he go the college route. Top Level National Prospect.
