2003 Spring Showcase
At 6 foot 3 and 175 pounds, Hampe has a good lean build with a good ceiling. He is a right-handed pitcher who has 2 very good pitches and athleticism on the hill. His arm works good and he threw an easy 83-86 mph as just a Junior. He also showed a 68-71 mph curveball and was equally effective out of the stretch with both pitches. Coming from a 3/4 arm slot, he appeared to have cutting action on many of his fastballs. He also looked good in the outfield and ran a 6.83 in the 60 on our laser. He is an athlete that can swing the bat a little too but we like him too much on the mound and think he has a chance to be a special pitcher. He needs to be followed closely.
