Cole Green is a 2007 right hand pitcher from Coppell HS, residing in Coppell, TX. He has a strong, compact but athletic build on his 6'1" 195 lb. frame. Green ranked #40 among PG National Top 85 pitchers. Not one of the most physically impressive pitchers, he has the type of stuff that will win no matter the level he pitches at after high school. Green pitches from a high 3/4 slot and possesses a quick, strong arm. There is some effort in his arm stroke but it does not affect his pitchability. He is aggressive with his stuff and aggressively attacks hitters. Green does not have an overpowering fastball, but he does overpower hitters with his breaking ball, which is a legitimate out pitch. Green has a slight cross body stride and gains a lot of ground during his delivery, eliminating some of the distance of the ball out of his hand to the hitting zone. He can be sneaky with his 88-91 mph fastball and hitters react very poorly to his curveball. His fastball has good down angle and arm side life. Green's curveball is the difference maker. It is 77-80 mph and he can get huge, whiffle ball type break with that pitch, sweeping it away from right hand hitters after starting it seemingly in the zone. Green not only can go up to 80 with the curveball, he can back off it a bit and go down to the low 70s, keeping hitters off balance. Pitchability with the breaking ball is a rare ability for young pitchers and he has it. Some may want to make Green a closer because his stuff would fit that role, as would his approach. For some college programs Green may be a hitting prospect too. He has a chance to hit at the college level, with a short swing and loose hands. The ball comes off his bat well and he stays inside pretty well. He has committed to the Texas Longhorns and likely is college bound, due in part to being a smallish right hander and also history has shown the majority of UT commits end up on campus.
