2007 Holiday Open Showcase
Matthew Black is a 2007 3B/RHP that attends Winder Barrow HS and resides in Winder, GA with a 6'2", 185 lb. frame. Matt has a tall athletic build that profiles well for a third baseman. At the plate Matthew has good extension to the ball and shows solid middle of the field contact. He has solid bat speed and strength in his swing and you can easily see Matthew improving quite a bit at the plate. Matthew is a little inconsistent in his approach and needs to really work on repeating his swing mechanics. In the field Matthew profiles well at third base. His hands are solid and he has good raw arm strength but is sometimes a little stiff in the field. On the mound Matthew throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with a short arm action. Matthew works quick on the mound and throws strikes with a fastball that has good run. He shows a nice straight change-up and is efficient with his pitches. Matthew is a solid student that could attract attention from some small to mid-level college programs.
