2004 Sunshine East Showcase
Chris Scartz is a 2005 catcher from Naples, FL. At 5'11" he has good strength throughout his body. He impressed us with his ability to handle the wood bat and could develop into a very productive hitter at the next level. Scartz has a nice balanced approach at the plate with a strong base and takes an aggressive, pull oriented swing with above average bat speed. Defensively, Scartz had very playable tools behind the plate, but tended to be a straight up and down receiver, which hurt his quickness and mobility. He has a strong quick arm and only needs to work on technique. Scartz’s bat looks like it’s going to play big and force it’s way into a lineup, so working at another position in addition to catching might be a realistic option for Scartz. Chris is a good student.
