John Paul Lavorato is a 2008 SS/P/IF with a 5'10'', 165 lb. frame from Salinas CA, who attends Salinas HS. He has an average, somewhat compact build, on a medium frame. Lavorato is a versatile ballplayer with abilities that contribute in most facets of the game. At the plate he displayed some strength. He is short to the ball and made a lot of barrel contact, showing a little pop. He has some rhythm at the plate too. In the games he employed a pullside approach. In the field he has soft hands and showed versatility. His throws have some carry and he focuses on making accurate throws. On the mound Lavorato pitched effectively. His arm works cleanly from an over the top slot. His fastball was 74-77 mph and he was able to spin the curveball well, with some feel. He also showed some change-up feel and may have even mixed in a knuckleball or two. His tools don't stand out but Lavorato is a sound ballplayer and should contribute at the right level of college baseball.
