Tim Lu is a 2008 LHP with a 5'10'', 165 lb. frame from Yorba Linda, CA who attends Esperanza HS. He has an average frame and a lean body type, with good body control. Lu has a chance to be successful at the D1 level. He knows how to pitch and has the type of breaking ball that almost all college pitching coaches like to have on their pitching staff. Lu pitches from a 3/4 arm slot that is particularly effective against LH hitters. His patient delivery can cause some impatience for a hitter and then he speeds it up at the end, with some pretty violent head action at release point. That head action does not seem to affect his feel or command. Lu's fastball was 79-83 mph with good run and he showed the ability to turn it over for more movement. His 73 mph curveball is his best pitch. It was consistently good and at times had plus bite and spin, not to mention good feel. He can sweep it away from LH hitters and get it to the back foot of RH hitters. Lu uses a BP fastball for a changeup. He is confident and has some mound presence and will contribute at D1 level if given the chance, likely out of the bullpen.
