Deaton is a 6-0, 185 lb senior switch hitting catcher from North Carolina. He ran 7.76 in the 60 and threw 67 mph during catching drills with a best pop time of 2.24. Deaton will have to work on both his throwing and his receiving skills to catch at the next level. His best present tools are with the bat. Deaton hits from an open to closed approach and has the strength to generate some bat speed. His bat speed and rhythm to the ball looked to be better from the right side at this point. Deaton had some good game swings and the ball comes off his bat well, especially to the middle of the field. Deaton is also a good student.
