2015 Sunshine East Showcase
Gabriel Sotomayor is a 2016 RHP/ with a 6-3 165 lb. frame from Gurabo, PR who attends Colegio San Jose. Large, highly projectable frame with long limbs and good athleticism throughout with plenty of room to add strength. Throws from high 3/4-near overtop slot with long arm action and looseness in arm. Athletic delivery with good balance throughout, worked in the mid 80's with FB, topping at 88 early in outing. FB has sink when commanded down in zone; though he showed ability to work up in the zone with some effectiveness. Gets downhill pretty well and generates plane to plate. Showed 4 pitches with good feel for all 4, with a fastball, curveball, slider, and changeup. Slider showed quality spin and tight tilt; curveball was solid with 10/4 slurvy shape with good depth; and changeup was thrown with good arm speed. Command of entire arsenal projects well due to athleticism of delivery. Very good student. Named to 2015 Sunshine East Showcase Top Prospect List.
