Lucas Kephart is a 2008 left hand hitting catcher/corner infielder from Arroyo Grande HS, residing in Arroyo Grande, CA. He has a 5'11" 185 lb. frame and a strong, thick and powerful body. Kephart does what a scout would want to see out of a young, physically built left hand hitter... he hits. He is a good hitter with a flat swing and a hand path that keeps him inside the ball. His approach to the ball is quiet and he generates pretty easy bat speed. Kephart has a short stroke and showed the ability to repeatedly make hard barrel contact. His hands are strong and coupled with his bat speed, he generates good present day power, particularly to the pullside. He handled the fastball very well and showed that he is a potential impact bat at the college level. Defensively he presents a nice target to throw to and showed good hands as a receiver. Fundamentally he has a chance to be an average defensive catcher who also could see time at 1st or 3rd base. His workout pop times can improve with some advanced coaching that he will receive at higher levels. No matter where he plays in college, his bat is going to get him in the line-up and likely keep him there.
