Octavio Lara Jr is a 2014 RHP/C with a 6-2 220 lb. frame from Bellflower, CA who attends Richard Gahr HS. Thick strong physical build, mature look. Slow paced delivery with a side step start, high 3/4's arm slot, medium length arm action, arm is loose and works well coming through, some effort on release. Steady upper 80's fastball, topped out at 90 mph, good arm side running life at times, spots fastball with precision to both sides of the plate. Throws two types of breaking balls, good depth to sweeping upper 70's slider, mid-70's curveball has hard downer shape and bite, slider is the better pitch but both showed quality and were thrown for strikes. Dominated and struck out 7 straight hitters at one point, impressive performance. Right handed hitter, high hand start, long aggressive swing with some power when squared up. Good student.
