2004 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
IF T.J. Cataldo: Cataldo is a senior infielder from Iowa who has signed to go to the University of Iowa. Cataldo’s raw physical tools aren’t high prospect level but he is an extremely polished player with a well above average skill level. His bat especially stands out. Cataldo hits from the left side of the plate with a nice, balanced approach. His hands are very quick to the ball and Cataldo has consistently shown us extra base power to the right centerfield gap and down the right field line. In fact, he could end up being a doubles machine at the college level because of how consistently he hits line drives down the line into the corner. Cataldo’s balanced approach and quick hands enable him to wait on balls well and recognize pitches and he rarely swings at a bad pitch, which could make him an ideal #2 hitter in college. Cataldo’s defensive play at second base mirrors his offensive approach. He lacks special quickness or arm strength but is always in good position, always set with his feet and has a very accurate arm. Pitchers will like him because he’ll make all the plays. He's a pro level hitter!
