2004 Sunshine East Showcase
Ryan Pflum is a 2005 5'11" right hander from North Carolina who pitched five effective innings at Sunshine East. He throws a sinking fastball in the 79-81 mph range and does a good job of throwing strikes early in the count despite a somewhat herky jerky delivery that shows some effort. Pflum showed a definite aptitude with his breaking balls. He threw far more sliders than curveballs and some of them were sharp and late at 72 mph. Pflum also threw a couple of curveballs in the mid 60’s that had good spin to them and also dropped a couple of change ups on hitters. Pflum is also worth looking at as a position player. He showed good bat speed in batting practice and in games, runs very well and has quick, athletic actions. He's a real interesting player/pitcher and a good student.
