Calvin Mathews is a 2012 RHP with a 6-4 200 lb. frame from Bloomfield, IA who attends Davis County HS. Low waisted athletic build, good present strength. Deep arm action with over the top release point, some effort at release, threw numerous pitches at high 3/4's slot with positive effect. Warmed up at 91-92 mph, mostly high 80's with hitters, tends to muscle up in game situations and lose velocity, showed cut fastball for first time this outing, interesting pitch with some bite. Flashed hard downer spin on curveball but not consistent. Good student, signed with Iowa.
