Mike McDermott is a 2006 LHP/1B from Rio Rancho HS in Albuquerque, NM, with a 6'3", 185 lb. frame. McDermott has a projectable body with sloped shoulders, long arms, and a strong lower half. He throws from a 3/4 arm slot with good arm speed, and stays balanced throughout his delivery. His fastball topped out at 81 mph with some arm side life, and he mixed in a big curveball at 61 mph. McDermott gets good depth on his curveball, and it has the potential to be a very good pitch for him. Offensively he is a left handed hitter with an upright stance and uses a toe tap trigger. He has a short and compact swing with good bat speed. McDermott stays on breaking balls well and shows the hands and approach to use the whole field. Defensively he has good hands at first base and showed the ability to pick balls in the dirt, and he moves well around the bag.
