Luke Holmes is a 2006 right handed pitcher from South Dade HS in Miami, FL, with a 6'0", 170 lb. frame. Holmes has a good pitcher's body and throws from a 3/4 arm slot. He showed good command of his fastball that topped out at 81 mph, while working from 77-81 mph. Holmes has projectable velocity, and we have seen him up to the mid-80s in the past. His fastball jumps on hitters with late riding action which causes late swings by hitters. As good as his fastball is, Holmes' curveball is his best pitch. He gets tight spin on the pitch with good break and depth that changes a hitters' eye level. Holmes has a slow and deliberate delivery with balance throughout, and knows how to pitch. He also showed his arm strength from the outfield with solid actions. Offensively he is a right handed hitter who covers the plate well. He hits from gap to gap with solid bat speed, and has projectable gap power. He is also a very good student.
