Branham is a 6-2, 200 lb right handed pitcher from Texas who also showed very good overall athletic ability. He has a solid present strong athletic body and live actions. Branham ran the 60 in a quick 7.06 and threw an impressive 88 mph from the outfield. Branham throws from a high 3/4's release point and gets good downward plane to the plate on his pitches. He pitched at 81-85 mph on his fastball with virtually no help from his strong body at all. Branham does not get any hip or lower half rotation during his delivery and throws almost entirely with a short, quick arm action that lacks the extension he got from the outfield. It's kind of a wonder that he can throw 85 mph the way he does and a testament to his natural ability. Branham also threw a 69 mph curveball that had good spin and bite when he stayed behind the ball. This is a really, really good athlete who could improve quickly with some adjustments to his pitching mechanics. It's pretty easy to see him as a upper 80's guy this coming Spring who could touch 90 mph when everything comes together. Follow him closely for improvement. Branham is also an excellent student.
