2004 Western Underclass Showcase
Derek is a 2007 grad from Yorba Linda, California with a medium frame and compact strength. He throws from an even tempoed delivery with good balance out front. He has a long, smooth arm action in back. Derek's fastball was up to 77 mph at the event and he threw a 65 mph curveball and 70 mph change up. His curveball was his best pitch, with good depth and some downer action to it. Derek also showed us some ability with the bat. He has an aggressive approach and a compact line drive swing that produced consistent hard line drives. Derek's infield actions were also balanced and smooth. If he could improve his first step quickness, he could be a nice 2-way talent in the future.
