Rene Melendez Pena is a 2013 C with a 6-1 190 lb. frame from Humacao, PR who attends Caguas Military & Sport Academy. Very nice athletic build, long limbed with good present strength. Outstanding defensive skills and actions, low balanced set up with quick feet, good hands receiving the ball, quick release with plus accuracy, 1.89 best pop time, raw arm strength only MLB average but that is the only defensive aspect that isn't plus. Right handed hitter, has shortened up his swing since last scouted, wide base with shift into contact, has some lift, mid field approach, good extension out front, shows bat speed and projectable power, has the strength to hit. Defense really stands out. Keeps getting better every time seen. Good student.
