2006 Nor Cal Underclass Showcase
Coley Crank is a 2008 C with a 5'11'', 215 lb. frame from Pinole CA, who attends Pinole Valley HS. Selected as a Top Prospect at this event. He has a strong, stocky, physical build on a sturdy frame. Crank has a good arm and with coaching will be a serviceable defensive catcher at the college level, but it is his bat that will get him his future opportunities. He has good present day power that is generated with an east, short swing and that power plays to all fields. The ball comes off his bat very well, sometimes surprisingly so when you see how far it carries. Crank maintains good balance during his swing and has a level swing plane. He should be a mainstay in the middle of a college line-up in the future. Defensively he shows off a strong arm and has competitive pop times. Interesting that he is the rare catcher that does not try to cheat the pop time drill and really does not ever get in a hurry to throw. If he can speed up his transfer and feet just a bit, Crank can be a solid 2.05 or better thrower. His technique is simple. He provides the type of power bat and strong arm that is attractive at the catcher position.
