Josh Underkofler is a 6-1, 170 lb senior right handed pitcher from Montana with a good athletic frame. He throws from a simple, on line delivery with a short arm stroke that he repeats well. Underkofler's fastball was in the 74-76 mph range but really just about every fastball he threw was a cut fastball to almost a slider at the lower velocities. He either uses his grip or finger pressure to make the ball move very consistently. It's probably a very effective pitch against young and inexperienced hitters up in Montana. Underkofler's other breaking ball was a 65 mph curveball that had a big downer break to it. Underkofler did a good job of throwing strikes and looks like he has good knowledge of how to pitch. Underkofler showed good hand strength at the plate, too, and the ball came off his bat well. He hits from a pre-load set up and can drive the ball a bit when he gets the bat head out in time. His catching skills are developing. Underkofler is also a very good student.
