LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 National Showcase
Ross Wilson is a 2007 right hand hitting shortstop from Hoover HS, residing in Hoover, AL. Wilson has an average, athletic build on his strong 6'0" 185 lb. frame. There is really not a lot on the field that Wilson cannot do. He is just simply a very good baseball player and was ranked #42 among PG National Top 100 position players. Wilson is very comfortable with the speed of the game and has the look of a player that will excel at each level of play, taking little if any time at all to adjust to higher levels of play. At the plate Wilson certainly showed that he can handle the fastball. He has a quick bat and gets it started easily. The ball comes off his bat well, indicating that he has excellent bat speed through contact. One thing Wilson did perhaps better than any player in the showcase was make consistently hard contact. In each of his five at-bats he made plus contact, and that was facing some of the top pitchers in the nation. His swing is simple and efficient and he has some present day power. At this point it is not a stretch to imagine Wilson hitting in the three-hole, in college and then beyond. In the field Wilson was good on defense, particularly solid at 2nd base. He is an aggressive defensive player, the type that looks like he wants the ball all the time, in all situations, concerned more about making the play rather than how he looks making it. Wilson does have plus hands and a near plus arm, so it is not like he is without tools. He just is not flashy or showy like so many "show" type players. To boot, Wilson can play all three 2B/SS/or 3B. He is good athlete and ran 4.23 home/1st with a 6.84 laser timed 60. Wilson is an impact D1 type player and will also get some pro interest this spring, though much more in a few years during his college career.
