Daniel Shields is a 2005 athlete from Royal Palm Beach, FL, who lists himself as a primary first baseman, but who has tools that profile much better in the outfield. Shields runs very well and recorded a 6.98 in the 60 on the slow track. His throwing arm is also very playable from center or left field. At the plate, Shields showed some good power to the middle of the field. He has a nice balanced load with his hands calm and back and enough present strength to generate some good bat speed with wood. Shields’ swing understandably has a bit of aluminum sweep in it, but he makes good contact consistently. He could become a very productive hitter at the next level. Daniel is an excellent student.
