Kareem Edwards is a 2008 OF/SS with a 5'10'', 160 lb. frame from San Leandro CA, who attends Encinal HS. He was selected as a Top Prospect at this event. He has a strong, compact and athletic build on an average sized frame. Edwards has the type of speed that can change a game and he flashed the instincts and ability to use that speed. In two games he went 4 for 6 and incorporated a hitting approach that should allow him to consistently reach base at each level he plays. Edwards has a very quick bat and a short compact swing, making consistently hard barrel contact.. Standing on top of the plate, he has excellent plate coverage. With that short swing and his hand speed, Edwards easily turns on inside pitches and handles good velocity. He hits line drives and hard ground balls, rarely hitting fly balls. Defensively he tracks balls into the gaps well, has a quick release and a good arm, making disciplined and accurate one hop throws. Edwards projects well as a true defensive centerfielder and a top of the line-up table setter.
