2016 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
Jarred Wood is a 2017 RHP/1B/3B with a 6-3 187 lb. frame from Cedar Rapids, IA who attends Thomas Jefferson HS. Nice athletic build, long and loose and projectable. Slow paced side step delivery with good direction to the plate and a low effort release, arm action is long and high in back, high 3/4's to near over the top release slot. Fastball topped out at 85 mph, mostly straight, tended to struggle with vertical command of his fastball. Secondary pitches were his best offerings this outing. Has a nice arm action and release for a split finger change and throws a good one with some late diving action. Shows good feel for his slider with occasional good depth, has the ability to add and subtract from it for more of a curveball look. Right handed hitter, deep hand/high elbow load in an upright stance, pull approach, its from on top of the ball and has some bat speed and leverage out front. Good student.
