Joe Bedard is a 2007 C/IF with a 6'1'', 190 lb. frame from Cedar Rapids IA, who attends Xavier HS. He a good frame and good present strength. Bedard has good speed for his size and position, running 7.23 in the 60 and 4.48 to first base. He looks like he has the athleticism to play multiple positions, especially the outfield. Defensively, Bedard threw 69 mph with a best pop time of 2.33 in drills. His throwing mechanics could improve, he stands straight up to throw and has no movement to second base when throwing. He received the ball cleanly. Offensively, Bedard hits with a slightly open, high handed no stride approach. He has some raw bat speed from a rotational type swing. He's looking to lift the ball with an upper cut swing plane. Some more lower body involvement could improve his hitting consistency. Bedard has good strength and athletic ability and could keep improving with adjustments.
