2007 West Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Garrett Salzman is a 2008 C with a 5'10'', 190 lb. frame from Glendale, CA who attends St. Francis HS. He has a strong build on a stout, physical frame. The more we watched Salzman, the more we realized that he is quite a good college catching prospect. He did everything on the diamond well and all that you could ask of a college catching prospect. Offensively he showed the ability to make consistently hard barrel contact with some power. His hands are strong and he handled both sides of the plate well. Salzman will be a good RBI man at the college level. Defensively he is solid and steady with good all-around skills. His arm is quick and his catch/throw skills are efficient. He made some real nice backpick throws. Salzman is strong in the squat and sets up well, presenting a nice target to throw to. He blocks well too. Salzman is the type of catcher that shows up everyday and provides the steady play behind the plate that puts any pitching coach and head coach at ease. On top of that, he can hit too.
