2003 World Showcase
Rivas is a smaller type catcher with a pretty good arm. He shows good quickness behind the plate and does a nice job of receiving. He tends to over stride at the plate with a power type swing with lift. He is much stronger than his size would dictate. He is aggressive at the plate, but could spread out and be more in control of the swing. Rivas also pitched in Ft Myers and looked good. He threw in the low 80s with a real nice 10-4 curveball. He also showed a feel for the changeup. He's not the prototypical MLB type big tall pitcher, but he could be very effective at the next level either behind the plate or on the mound.
