2004 Underclass National Showcase
Simpson is a long limbed, lean 6-1 athlete with good projection to get physically stronger. He has a loose, whippy swing that generates good bat speed. He hits with an aggressive, pull approach and has good leverage. Simpson also threw 3 innings, throwing a 80-81 mph fastball from a low ¾’s arm slot that had some tail to it. He also threw a 71-73 mph slurve from the same arm angle that had good depth to it and dabbled with a change up as well. The big question with Simpson is how much he will be able to improve his lower body life and quickness. He has good arm strength, power potential and actions. Ryne is an excellent student..
