2006 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
Matt Dunn is a 2006 C/OF/P with a 6'0'', 200 lb. frame from Clive IA, who attends Dowling HS. Dunn has a strong body, especially in the lower half. He has excellent arm strength from both the outfield and from behind the plate and his 81 mph drill reading measures up with some of the best catching velos in the country. His best pop time was 1.89. Dunn throws with effort from both positions but there's no mistaking his arm strength. He's a good athlete at both positions with quickness and speed. Dunn hits from a tall stance with a hard front foot jab to the ball and generates good bat speed. Dunn has an upper cut approach, with dropped hands and a low back shoulder, causing an upper cut swing that leads to inconsistent contact. The ball jumps off Dunn's bat hard on contact and he shows power potential. Dunn also pitched a bit, throwing an 82 mph fastball and 10/4 curveball that had fair spin and break. We've seen Dunn in the mid-80's before, which is certainly consistent with his positional arm strength. Dunn is also a good student.
